Mandarin

In the Mandarin course, pupils build on the existing literacy skills they have developed in English and French (and other languages).

 

Pupils also learn to understand and communicate with others while learning about the rich culture of China.

Mandarin in S1

The S1 Mandarin course contains the following topic:

  • Me, myself and I (learning to introduce myself and give personal information; describing myself and my family and friends).

Mandarin in S2

The S2 Mandarin course contains the following topics:

  • The World (learning about countries and nationalities – their geography and their facts; planning a trip to a Spanish-speaking country).
  • School (talking about school: my subjects, my timetable, school facilities and giving opinions; learning about school experiences in China; comparing and contrasting our education system with China’s.

Mandarin in S3

In S3, all pupils complete the Modern Languages for Life & Work award at SCQF Levels 3 or 4.

This award contains the following topics:

  • Life: Chinese cinema; writing a film review; discussing opinions on films.
  • Work: learning about job opportunities; discussing future plans; writing a CV; participating in a job interview.
