French
In French, pupils learn to communicate, collaborate and build relationships.
Pupils reflect on and explain literacy and thinking skills, engage with and create a wide range of texts in different media, develop their understanding of what is special, vibrant and valuable about their own and other cultures and languages.
in addition, pupils explore the richness and diversity of language, and extend and enrich their vocabulary through listening, talking, writing and reading.

French in S1
The S1 French course contains the following topics:
- Le collège (talking about school: my subjects, my timetable, school facilities and giving opinions; learning about school experiences in French-speaking countries; comparing and contrasting our education system with France’s).
- Les loisirs (talking about my interests and hobbies and giving opinions).
- Les vacances (talking about holidays trips at home and abroad to other countries; the geography of France).

The S2 French course contains the following topics:
- Les réseaux sociaux (learning about social media; learning how to invite someone somewhere and make plans).
- Ma ville (talking about where I live – my town and my house).
- Estate agent project (creating my dream house and creating an estate agent brochure).
- À table (learning about food and ordering in a restaurant; discussing healthy eating; discovering French foods).

French in S3
In S3, all pupils complete the Modern Languages for Life & Work award at SCQF Levels 3 or 4.
This award contains the following topics:
- Life: French cinema; writing a film review; discussing opinions on films.
- Work: learning about job opportunities; discussing future plans; writing a CV; participating in a job interview.
