Welcome to the Computing Science Department

Computing capability is an essential skill for life and enables learners to participate more readily in a rapidly changing world.

Computing Science allows pupils to explore elements of hardware and software, develop analytical thinking and encourages creativity and collaboration to solve complex problems. 

From S2 - S6 we strive to provide opportunities for pupils to participate fully, through varied experiences, which provide appropriate challenge at all levels.

S2 Computing Science

In S2 Computing Science pupils get a flavour of aspects of Computing Science such as Programming and Web Design. A main focus of our S2 Computing course is Creativity with pupils developing new applications in the following topics.

  • Emerging Technology
  • Scratch Programming
  • Web Design
  • Kodu Games Development
  • Microbit Programming
  • Digital Security

S3 Computing Science

Our Computing Science course aims to develop pupil’s problem solving skills and introduce them to a number of different software packages. Pupils will create programs in Scratch, Kodu and Python as well as developing Apps, Databases and Websites. The Computing Science courses are very practical in nature with pupils spending the majority of time on the Computers.

  • Software Development
  • Database Design and Development
  • Web Design

Computing Science in the Senior Phase

As pupils progress to the Senior Phase, they have the opportunity to continue to develop their skills in the different software packages they have been introduced to in the BGE.

The SQA courses we deliver provide a natural progression for pupils as they move from S4 - S6. The courses we offer are listed below:

  • National 4 Computing Science
  • National 5 Computing Science
  • Higher Computing Science
  • Advanced Higher Computing Science
  • NPA Web Design - SCQF Level 5
