Welcome to the Business Education Department

At Hamilton Grammar School, pupils have access to the full suite of Business Education subjects, which provides them with opportunities for personalisation and choice as they progress through the school.

Our courses provide pupils with an appropriate level of challenge, and allow them to develop the 6 key skills at the heart of our planning, while developing their confidence using digital applications.

S2 Business Education

In our S2 Business Education course pupils continue to develop their Digital Literacy skills and work collaboratively in a number of different projects. We aim to give pupils a flavour of disciplines such as Administration & IT, Accounting and Business Management as well as developing pupil’s Entrepreneurial skills. Through our varied activities, pupils experience the different subject areas which they can choose in S3. We believe this will encourage pupils to make more informed subject choices, ensuring they continue to excel as they move through the school.

Pupils in S2 Business will complete the following topics.

Accounting Accounting is the process of recording financial transactions pertaining to a business. The accounting process includes summarizing, analysing, and reporting these transactions.	Administration & IT Administration and IT involves the process of managing information and develops pupils' administrative, organisational and IT skills. Pupils develop key skills, preparing them to move into the workplace.
Business Management Business management involves the coordination and organization of business activities. Business management also involves the planning, organizing, and controlling resources in order to meet their business objectives.	Economics Economics is a social science that focuses on the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services, and analyses the choices that individuals, businesses, governments, and nations make to allocate resources.

S3 Accounting

Our Accounting courses are designed to combine practical and theoretical aspects of Accounting, allowing pupils to understand and communicate financial information. The course encourages pupils to think logically and apply accounting principles in their lives, helping make more informed decision about their own financial future.

S3 Administration & IT

Our Administration & IT courses aim to give learners an introduction to Administration and to develop pupil’s IT skills and their ability to carry out administrative tasks.

The Course aims to enable learners to develop:

• An awareness of administrative tasks.
• The ability to use basic functions of word processing, spreadsheets and databases to carry out administrative tasks.
• Basic skills in using appropriate current technologies to gather and communicate administration-related information.
• The ability to use skills to carry out simple administrative tasks in familiar contexts.

Our S3 Administration and IT course offers a natural progression to our Senior Phase Administration and IT courses.

S3 Business Management

This course aims to introduce pupils to the real world of business. Theoretical skills and practical skills will benefit all pupils and those interested in a career or further study in a business-related subject.

Our S3 Business Management course offers a natural progression to our Senior Phase Business Management courses.
